AFF Cliches: Gangsters

Disclaimer: Anything mentioned here is not targeted to anyone; these are just my presumptions. I'm not out here to offend anyone. You have been warned!

Feel free to correct me here, but I think 90% of the stories in AFF are about kingkas or gangsters (or are they the same thing?). It's comical how some of these authors portray them as "tough but caring" or "badass but secretly cute," when in reality a gangster is a criminal who is a member of a gang, and gangs do illegal things in short.

Better yet, I think I should show you what one looks like. No racism intended, but that's the best picture I could find without all those "bad" things. Totally the opposite of what you see in some of these stories huh?

Speaking of which, why do they always use L.joe for these types of characters? It just baffles me because I really don't see him fit to be a gangster according to those variety shows I've watched. Why can't he be a doctor for once?! I think that'd be sexy hot and not cliche. Hehe, L.joe as a doctor. *wiggles eyebrows*

Do read this guys because it is hilarious.

Till next time! *creepy giggle*

The Use of Konglish

Disclaimer: If you can't handle criticisms that well, then I suggest you shouldn't read this. Anything mentioned here is not targeted to anyone; these are just my presumptions.

One of the things that pisses me the most in AFF is when authors use Konglish... Extreme Konglish! As in to the point that you can't even understand what the fuck the characters are saying. I mean, it’s okay to use words such as unnie, oppa, or something light. But going too far and ending up like the one below is not acceptable.

"Annyeonghaseyo Sungjong oppa!"
"Neo babo ya!"
"Aniyo, I'm not a babo."
"Neh you are, wae did you throw my homework away, noona?"
"Jeorang gyeoronae juseyo."

No need for translations when I can't even understand that myself.

Unless you are Korean or someone who had studied the Korean language, it's not advisable for you to use Konglish because for all we know, the words up there might mean something offensive or better yet, like this. Wouldn't you feel embarrassed when something like that happens?

Author's Note And Comments

Comments
When we read comments and A/N, we see these a lot, but it's something we really don't give a crap about. Although there's nothing really huge about this, it does play out a prodigious part on making impressions ... well, to me it does. Please take into consideration that these are solely my opinions and you may agree or disagree. Correct me if you find something incoherent.

1. I need 5 comments to start/update this story!
When I see something like this, I immediately back away. 1) that author is writing for popularity, and 2) the story will most likely be lousy. Manipulating readers is not very nice, and you won't feel accomplished by doing that.

2. Update! Update! Update!
Do not rush/compel the author. Maybe they are facing exams, grounded from the internet, their internet is wack, or etc. If you push them into writing faster, their updates may not be as epic, unlike this story. And I have waited a month for that story to update, it was worth it.

3. I am deleting this story ... Just kidding!
This is just my opinion, but I find these messages more funny than scary. Why? I find these mostly in cliche and horrendous written stories. Now, if my favorite author(s) said something like that, I would cry (oh goodness, I hope I didn't jinx myself).

4. Plagiarizing is a no-no!
Or that author will take out their pink shotgun and have the desire to shoot rainbow pee at you. Unless your story is a work of art, I consider these very hilarious. Especially when the author's story is like this:

OMAGAAH! I got kicked out of my school because I was being a bad girl. And now, I have to go to the prestigious Woollim Academy! I really hate it because there's this one guy that always bothers me *ahem* Jang DongButt Dongwoo. What's worse, is that I'm infatuated when I see his pulchritudinous face!

Please don't plagiarize, reduce, reuse, recycle, counterfeit, imitate, reprint, mimeograph, or transmogrify my beautiful story to Konglish! I worked my butt off writing this. Kamsahapnida! Konnichiwa!

I think I just made a laughing stock out of myself. Don't think I'm mean guys because I'm not. I just think it's funny when some authors do this. I mean, who in the world would wanna copy your story, if it's badly written?

Author's Note
I'm just going to address the Do's and Dont's of A/N formatting. I don't see it as something important, but I just want to voice out my viewpoint on this.

1. If you're a minor, please click back
Highlighted text is a huge no and I find it very ugly. If you don't know what I'm trying to explain, see this (ignore the words above).

2. All because of Mickey Mouse ...
Don't make a whole essay that's longer than you story, explaining irrelevant things like why you haven't updated for a week. Most likely, the reader could care less about what happened when you went to Universal Studios. Make a blog post instead, that's what they are for, right?

3. Don't die on me Sungyeol!
It's really irritating when some authors have unnecessary A/N(s) in the middle of their story. It just ruins the mood and I find it very sloppy. Take this as an example:

I looked away as Dongwoo approached me . He smiled (A/N: Aaah! That is so hot! *Internet fangirl scream*), grabbing my hand as he led me under the luminous stars (A/N: ASHASJDHFJDS! I think I'm going to faint! Does my Author's Note annoy you?).

Or this:

I knew it was Sungyeol's last day on Earth, yet it feels as if this was just a dream. I have come to realize that this was reality, as his eyes slowly closed to a deep slumber (A/N: No! Don't die Sungyeol!). He lightly smiled as hot tears fell from my eyes (A/N: You better not die on me Sungyeol or imma kick you in the balls). "I'm glad I was able to keep you safe [insert your name here]," He said in a whisper. (A/N: I totally cried on this one *sniffles* Please support me guys).

4. Tao is mine!
I know, the author's note is your time to spazz and use slang/horrible grammar, but don't overdo it. What I mean is:

Hello fraaands! Layk, I reely enjoyed writing chapter about Sungyeol dying <3 Kiss kiss mwuah mwuah and do read my other fanfics. I love youuu <3

I happen to stumble on something like the above, and I was like ... what in the name of Bert is she trying to say? And I do like the name Bert, thank you very much. Also, try not to give out too much information about the next chapter.

The next chapter is about Sungyeol coming back to life even though he's dead. You know ... because it's fanfiction. Aren't you [insert your name here], ecstatic? They get married at the end too. Oops, I think I gave out too much information?

Now you know that Tao is mine!

Female OC Characterization

So, I have been browsing around AFF to find good stories. And I came across a hodgepodge of such poor-made, irritating, and don't forget the oh-so-perfect female OC(s). The descriptions I encountered are either this:

Ching Chong is a filthy rich girl who has everything in the world, but she is sweet, kind, and a happy-go-lucky-girl. Don't forget, she's a nerd and dates the most badass kingka (whatever that is) in the whole entire world, Lee Sungjong. Oh, she also hates the school's queenka, Hyuna.

Or this:

You or __ is a poor girl who lost her parents because of a spaceship attack. Now you have no money and has to take care of yourself. But because you are so perfect, you were able to keep yourself smelling good, even though you're penniless. One day, by some miracle, Myungsoo steps into the picture, although he has better things to do than take care of a homeless stranger, and provides you a home.

Or this:

Bert What I meant was Soyu, is a kick-ass girl who will rip the shreds out of you if you get in her way. But, she softens up when she decides to pick on the school's number one nerd, Kim Sunggyu. (trust me, I have seen this plot so much).

And finally:

King Kong is a fat girl. She doesn't have friends, and her Christmas picture is still printing because that's how fat she is. Because of a bet, Hoya asks her out. At first, he didn't like it, and now he's falling madly in love with her. (note: not all fat people are friendless!)

My thoughts on this was ... what the dodo bird? Where is the individuality? Is being normal a sin? And the atrocious part is, that it's a YOU fic. That means I have to insert my name and pretend it's me. To be honest with you, those descriptions are nowhere near the mighty great Erika. No, I am not some homeless scum nor am I stinking rich (I wish I was), neither am I sweet, kind, a nerd (at least I don't consider myself one), a gangster girl, or overall a Mary Sue*. I am just Erika who lives a very boring life on this planet Earth.

Do I hate Mary Sue characters? Naaww... I just find them very unoriginal, unrealistic, and a nuisance. All girls are not just made of sweetness, they are also made up of sugar and spice, and everything nice ... Well, according to this poem, that is. And please don't think that I hate girly-girls. I am actually very fond of them, you know, if they're a Disney princess character. Although, it's pretty awkward when I watch Disney princess movies, especially when the girl is dreaming/singing that her prince will someday come. We all know in reality that is not going to happen 99.9% of the time (feel free to correct me on that one). The one I was never sticky on was Mulan, and I dearly love that movie.

So, to sum it down, there is nothing wrong with being normal. Have some originality, though I wouldn't advise you to be too original. Otherwise, it would end up like this:

Krung Krung is a girl who lived a boring life. Everything she did was the same: eat, sleep, and poop. She wasn't perfect, she was ... normal.

No! Just no! Even if that wasn't cliche, most people would not bother to read something like that. Try to have a mixture of reality and fantasy, after all, it's fanfiction.

For all those who are wondering who is Mary Sue, read this. Oh, wait, wrong link. I meant this.
